A Little Self-Love

What are three things you love about your personality?

Well, other than the fact that I’m utterly delightful? Ha! Just kidding, but I do like this question. So off we go!

  1. I don’t hold onto anger or irritation very long. Very early in adulthood I learned to ask myself “Will this affect me in 10 seconds, 10 minutes, 10 hours, 10 days, 10 years?” It’s a powerful way to calm my reaction and also be super honest about how “serious” it truly is. Because of this, I let a lot of things slide – not because I’m a doormat, but because somewhere along the lines it fell off the evaluation track and I decided it doesn’t matter that much.
  2. I instinctively find the humor in everything. This gets on people’s nerves – haha! But if it’s a stressful situation, a sad moment, etc, I try to find the humor or silver lining. My friends and family will often hear me say, “Of course that happened! Why wouldn’t it?!” and that’s my way of shifting gears from the negative emotion to something more positive or optimistic.
  3. I am endlessly optimistic and resilient. I work really hard to look for opportunity and possibilities when things get hard. To look at options and even if they aren’t options I want to take, be grateful that the options are there. I do believe that things will work out for the best – not because that’s “how the universe works”, but because I put a lot of effort into maintaining a positive environment for my life to operate within. A lot of people in my life have said that I’m “so lucky” but the reality is by keeping my optimism high and persevering over adversity, it’s not luck – it’s strategy.

In a nutshell, effective self-management, good sense of humor, and optimism. All three play together to make me an annoying nice, positive, good-natured person. Hahaha. But I love that about me.
