Entertainment Center Makeover

A few weeks ago, I wrote about seven home projects I have on my to-do list. After living in our new house for a few months, I’m starting to get antsy to make changes, and the list is starting to grow. Recently, I decided to knock out one big project – our entertainment center.

Previous owners of our home created this giant wood built-in entertainment center in the living room. We can only imagine it was built in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, because it was clearly designed for a large tube tv. Take a look.

Stylistically, the entertainment center just didn’t work for us. However, we did love having a quality DIY piece in the house and functionally, it actually worked really well. We just needed to give it a facelift…

…with power tools and white paint.

We used Nano White by Behr Paint in eggshell finish. To sufficiently cover the existing stain job on the cabinets, we had to do three coats, but let me tell you. That paint job is solid!

We also drilled new holes for electronic cords to work with our modern equipment and setup. A few nails and zip ties allowed us to further manage the cords. All the organization!

Of course, a new paint job calls for new accessories. We scoured the shelves of At Home and Home Goods to add a few new touches like the lanterns and picture frames. The plants on the top shelf were made by disassembling fake plant stems and sticking them into floral foam.

We could not be happier with the finished product! Our living room is brighter, and we love how our board games and puzzles really pop off the shelves! Additionally, we were able to revive the wiring for built-in lights in the top half of the entertainment center. So now everything works and looks so, so pretty!

One project down… a million more to go!
