We are finally done with the nursery, and I can’t tell you how much we love the end result!
When designing our nursery, we had three goals.
First, the room had to be gender neutral. (We were adamant about not finding out the baby’s sex.)
Second, we wanted it to be Disney themed.
If you stop here, essentially, this was an easy task. We could have gone the direction of Mickey & Friends or Disneyland themed. Anything that just threw out a variety of characters and fun colors would have done it.
However, the final goal was…
Blend the nursery with the rest of the home decor.
Our home has a coastal feel to it, with lots of blues, greens, tans, and greys. We find it to be calming and wanted to bring that feel into the nursery. Thus, an idea was born.
Let’s do Disney… but only Disney ocean characters!
This meant limiting our design to characters that live near or in the ocean, such as Lilo & Stitch, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo/Dory, Moana, etc. Surprisingly, this made picking the decor elements and projects significantly easier. We got beachy/ocean items and gave them a Disney pop. Perfect!
What shouldn’t be surprising is we owned many of the Disney elements prior to piecing together the nursery. What can I say?! We’re fans.
Keep an eye out for the DIY projects. We’re really proud of the pieces we made ourselves and have enjoyed sharing how easy they are to make. Each one links to a tutorial!
So without further ado, I give you the Disney Ocean themed nursery.
First, I know, I know. The wall color is hard to see the photos and appears to be 15 different colors. I’m still working on my photography and editing skills. However, here’s what you need to know:
Wall Paint Color: Behr Spring Frost
So many books! We are fans of having books in bedrooms instead of toys so we wanted to set the tone by loading up the nursery with tales of adventure. (To be clear, we are spoiled with playroom space so we can easily make this decision.) About half of these books are actually from my childhood and the other half have been purchased or gifted to us over our pregnancy.
Moana Art Print: The Disney Store
DIY Project: Disney Seashell Sign
Fun Fact: The Steamboat Willie snowglobe was purchased at Disneyland during their Golden Anniversary celebration. I bought the last available one in the park after it was discontinued.
Baskets: Home Goods
Picture/Book Shelves: IKEA Mosslanda
Fun Fact: The Peter Pan movie poster hung in my bedroom all through college.
We couldn’t resist this Baby Tick Tock (Peter Pan) stuffed animal.
Also, the dog book in the background was gifted to me during my baby shower. Can I Be Your Dog? by Troy Cummings Proceed with caution! It made me tear up and want to adopt all the puppies in the world. Just saying… if you’re pregnant and hormonal, watch out! This one will getcha!
As you can tell, we didn’t want the room to scream “Disney” but we wanted to add splashes here and there. From the Dory pillow to the Walt Disney quote on the wall, we added in subtle Disney elements.
Crib: Carter’s by Davinci Connor 4-1 Convertible Crib
Quilt: One of a kind courtesy of my mother-in-law!
Walt Disney Quote over Crib: Artistico on Etsy
DIY Project: Tinkerbell Lantern
Dresser: IKEA Hemnes 8-Drawer
We had the fishnet and seashells sitting in a box after our Coastal Christmas. I’m so happy we were able to repurpose them.
In the corner, behind the rocker, we placed an additional basket to hold stuffed animals. We know kids collect them like crazy so we thought why not give them a home from the beginning.

- Lilo & Stitch
- Captain Hook and Mr. Smee from the Peter Pan pattern
Ah, my pride and joy. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I worked on these for months. Hubs is still finishing up a Pirates of the Caribbean one to be added soon. We hope our kids love these so much and want to pass them down to their kids.
Lamp: IKEA Nymo
DIY Project: Ursula Shell Necklace Decor
Fun Fact: I bought this Jim Shore Little Mermaid statuette a little over a year ago and it was one of the first pieces we added to the nursery.
We can’t wait for our little Baby Lawrence to be here and create many magical memories in this cozy nursery.
If you simply can’t get enough, check out the Baby Lawrence tag to catch up on all the projects and pregnancy updates prepping for our bundle of joy’s arrival.
